It was my sheer good luck that i happened to join a polytechnic in Delhi as a part time communications and soft skills trainer,to train students from various courses like Hotel management,BCA,Fashion Design.etc.
I use the words 'sheer good luck' because the job offer came at a time when i was looking to escape from my own personal circumstances and situations. The first day of my job saw me facing a set of 20 to 30 curious eyes all belonging to an age group of students of 18-25 years looking at me- a young girl, my self of 29 years.
Initially they were not ready to accept such a young teacher who they thought knew nothing and the group of Hotel Management students were the most notorious of them all.
They tried all pranks - giggling at my back, making funny sounds, talking on the mobile in the middle of the class, chewing gums etc.but to their bad luck i being a strict disciplinarian allowed my work and attitude to speak for it self rather than loose my temper or taking actions against them and voila after almost a patient wait of a month their attitude changed towards me completely.
They realized that there was more to my personality than just my good looks. They started to attend the classes regularly. In the beginning it was just four out of twenty but slowly the numbers grew and so did their confidence in me as a teacher.
Today i can proudly say that they are a very well behaved lot, polished and look forward to my classes with great eagerness.
Some one has rightly said that "you always command respect, never demand it".
In my case it has been more than true.
